Molecular Biology Laboratory
Laboratory Management

Associate Professor Kristian Almstrup
PhD, Senior Scientist
In the molecular biology laboratory, we perform routine testing for microdeletions in the AZF regions of the Y-chromosome and test for three common genetic variants affecting the expression of the FSH beta-subunit and the FSH receptor. In order to do so, we routinely isolate DNA from blood samples obtained from patients in our clinic. The laboratory is accredited by the Danish Accreditation Fund (DANAK) according to standard DS/EN ISO15189 (medical examination) and participates in international quality control programs.
Research
Besides routine testing of patient samples, a significant part of the molecular biology laboratory is devoted to research. We are approximately 20 students at different educational levels and three lab technicians. We have an ongoing development of new biomarkers to be tested in the clinic like e.g. the miR-371/373 test for diagnosis of testicular cancer.
