PARC - EDMARC

PARC aims to bring together a broad community of research establishments and health agencies to advance research, share knowledge and improve skills in chemical risk assessment.

The results of this partnership will be used to support new European and national strategies to reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals and their impact on health and the environment. Thus, PARC will support the European Union’s Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability and the European Green Deal‘s “zero pollution” ambition.

EDMaRC participate in PARC as part of the affiliate entity Region Hovedstaden. In PARC, we contribute with our expertise in human health and biomonitoring (HBM) studies and analysis of chemicals in human matrices.

Our on-going Copenhagen Puberty Study III collect urine samples for HBM in children and adolescence from the general Danish population. Senior researchers and post docs in the Copenhagen Puberty Study III research group also participate in the design and preparation of PARC general surveys for HBM.

Our analytical chemistry laboratory led by Dr. Hanne Frederiksen in our Hormone and Endocrine Disruptor laboratory group is part of the PARC laboratory network and will contribute with expertise in LC-MS/MS analysis of metabolites of non-persistent chemicals in urine and blood. The laboratory was also one of the reference laboratories for measurement of phthalate metabolites, bisphenols and benzophenone-type of UV filters in human urine in the previous European HBM4EU project.

PARC is coordinated by the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) and currently involves nearly 200 partners from 28 countries, as well as three EU agencies (the European Environment Agency – EEA, the European Chemicals Agency – ECHA and the European Food Safety Authority – EFSA). It is bringing into play public partners across the continent, including European and national risk assessment agencies, universities and public research organizations. Five Directorates-General of the European Commission (DG-RTD, DG-GROW, DG-ENV, DG-SANTE and JRC) and the ministries of the countries involved are contributing to the governance of PARC and will monitor its activities.
